Eye-catching posters, inspired by Japanese anime & urban culture, will raise awareness of PSLF. Send posters to universities across US.

Our Campaign

We’ve been working really hard and are so excited to announce our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign is now LIVE! It has always been our goal to help more student borrowers learn about programs such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). We wanted to combine a few of our passions like art and social work, so this is what we cooked up. Hold Fast to Dreams believes we can do it together with your help.

We have perks for sponsors starting at $10. See our Indiegogo campaign for more details about perks. If you cannot donate, you can still help by spreading the word about our campaign. You can find links to share our campaign on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and e-mail here.

What is Hold Fast to Dreams

It is estimated that more than 33 million American student borrowers are eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness but don’t know or aren’t on track to qualify. Recently, President Obama stated in his (very first) Tumblr Q&A that the PSLF program is “not as broad-based and widespread as I would like.” (http://whitehouse.tumblr.com/post/88412719118/in-case-you-missed-it-president-obama-answers-your)

Hold Fast to Dreams wants to create a solution. We are dedicated to sharing knowledge about student loans, especially student loan repayment and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF). We have been operating since June 2011 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. Our goal is to provide the public with a resource center and community for student loans, all in one convenient website. Through our forums, blog, and comments, we create a community where student borrowers and educators can learn and discuss student loans. Our blog has served to deliver breaking news and updates about student loans. All services on the website are free of charge.

Through the Hold Fast to Dreams website, we found that many student loan borrowers are not aware of their student loan repayment options. Hold Fast to Dreams has the potential to give at-risk student loan borrowers a chance at successful financial management with knowledge about federal programs, e.g., Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), Income-Based Repayment (IBR), Pay As You Earn (PAYE).

The PSLF Program is intended to encourage individuals to enter and continue to work full-time in public service jobs. Under this program, borrowers may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance of their Direct Loans after they have made 120 qualifying payments on those loans while employed full time by certain public service employers. IBR and PAYE are two of the best (lowest monthly $) repayment plans for student borrowers to save money while making their PSLF-qualifying payments.

How will the money be used

The funds will be used to create a total of three (3) posters (two are below) which will be sent to all 629 U.S. Public 4-year universities.

The posters will include information about student loans, with an emphasis on Public Service Loan Forgiveness and student loan repayment. The posters will feature eye-catching artwork inspired by Japanese anime and urban culture, enabling more student loan borrowers to learn about PSLF, IBR and PAYE. The Hold Fast to Dreams posters will target at-risk student loan borrowers who may otherwise default or defer student loans. We want to catch the attention of students and spread the word!

Black and White posters will be e-mailed to all 629 U.S. Public 4-year universities’ Financial Aid Office and student body groups. We will send an e-mail with instructions on how to print the black and white posters on 4 sheets of 8.5” x 11” letter size paper and assemble the poster for distribution (see below “Posters” for how-to). Color posters will be e-mailed to universities to be e-mailed to students.

Posters

A total of three (3) posters will be created and sent. The posters will be 17” x 22” (4 sheets of 8.5” x 11” letter size paper). The large poster image will be split into 4 page-sized results using a program called PosteRazor for cost-efficiency. The posters will be designed so they are visually stunning and intriguing in both color and black & white.

Estimated time of distribution

Posters will be sent to all 629 U.S. Public 4-year universities within 3 months from funding (November 2014).

In this time, we will: create 1 additional poster, take the 3 posters and split images to 4 page-sized results, gather e-mail list of 629 universities, and send out e-mails. These posters are intended to reach students in time for early winter graduation. Additional e-mail reminder will be sent near spring graduation time (June 2015).

Risks and challenges

Although the e-mail distribution eliminates shipping costs and complications, an issue arises with the receipt and assembly by universities. We are depending on the universities’ financial aid offices and student bodies to accept, assemble and distribute the poster on campus. The large poster images will be split into 4 page-sized results using a program called PosteRazor. The assembly is very simple (print black & white and tape together) and should not be a problem. We will send a reminder e-mail to post posters before the June 2015 graduation time, before students enter student loan repayment.
